Conference Programs, Matchy Match Shirts, and Other ALA Fun-ness

Here at Evanced Solutions, we don’t think it’s enough to just show up to conference. Oh no – we cannot just hang out in the booth (#717, by the way!) while we know that Library-palooza is going on. It drives us crazy if we don’t participate in conference programs and events just a bit. (Come by late Sunday – that’s when we usually get slap happy and start dancing in the booth…) But I digress…

We (Rob Cullin, Kim Cullin, and Christine Ayar Illichmann) are members of the LITA Public Libraries Technology Interest Group.  That group will be hosting two Conference Programs and we hope you can join us!

Supporting the Next Generation of Public Computing Hilton
Washington -Columbia 5 – 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM – Saturday, June 26

How will already strained Wi-Fi, network, and bandwidth resources handle more users bringing in mobile devices and libraries exploring the use and expansion of Netbooks and mobile computing? Expert panelist will discuss and take questions related to successful projects including loaning mobile devices, expanding Wi-Fi infrastructure, and increasing bandwidth of Internet connections. How to finance these projects will also be discussed. Panelists will also be available at the Monday morning “Coffee and Conversation with Experts” program to discuss their experiences further. Presented by LITA Public Libraries Technology IG.

Coffee and Conversation with Experts
Washington Convention Center -208A/B – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM – Monday, June 28
Digital Information & Technologies; Transformation & Innovations
Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea at topic tables hosted by library technology experts. Find out what others are doing with technology, what’s worked for them, and what hasn’t. Hop from table to table or start your own. Experts will be available from Saturday’s “The Next Generation of Supporting Public Computing” program in addition to others. Topics will include: mobile devices, Wi-Fi, broadband, roving and virtual reference, and social media. Coffee sponsored by Evanced Solutions, Inc. General business meeting will follow. Presented by LITA Public Libraries Technology IG.

Another thing of note that we really love about conference is that we get to be matchy-match. Because really, outside of organized sports and music performances, when is it okay for adults to wear matching clothes? This is particularly helpful for those of you participating in the Twitter Hunt.

evanced team 300x225 Conference Programs, Matchy Match Shirts, and Other ALA Fun ness

That is a white button down shirt with the Evanced logo and for this conference, dark blue jeans.  So if you are following @evanced and you uncover the clues to the surprise location and you happen to spot someone in an Evanced shirt holding a tote bag overflowing with gifts and goodies, then you know you’re on the right track!

Also of note is that BranchAnywhere will be on display with new features including a change to the book gripper and a new viewing angle for the touch screen.  You can also check out Kim Cullin’s presentations happening during Conference:

FAQ: Editing recurring reservations in Room Reserve

It’s time for another FAQ with Larry Woodhouse, our Training Coordinator…take it away Larry…

We explored this question from the Events side in our last post, but we need to look at this from the Room Reserve side, too. Actually, the two are pretty similar in some respects. There is, however, a difference as well.

OK, first, let’s talk about the similarities: Just like there are recurring events, there can also be recurring reservations, and there may come a time when you need to edit a single date from the recurring series. So, in Room Reserve, you would do this by going to the Requests/Reservations link and locate the reservation under the appropriate tab; Pending, Pending Payment, or Accepted.

Once you’ve located the reservation here, you should be seeing a listing of all the dates in that series. You can click on the individual date and then click the Edit button. Once in Edit Mode, you can modify any of the fields that are on the page, plus click on the “Change Reservation” button. This will allow you to change the reservation date, time, or even the selected meeting room.

The second option to edit is by unchecking the box for “Combine Recurring Reservations” and click Search. Just like Events, this separates the reservation into its individual dates and you can use the “Edit Single” button to make any modifications to the specific date that may be necessary.

Now, unlike Events, you cannot go to the Room Request calendar and click on the individual date to edit. The only activity you can do from the calendar is open the reservation in View Mode where you can perhaps Accept, Deny, or Archive the request date. For Room Requests, changes in the reservations are done from the Requests/Reservations Maintenance page only.
