Notify Me – What’s that all about?

If you are an Events customer, then you probably know quite a bit about the Notify Me function of Events.  When we first started out, the same feature was called “E-Notify” and you may know the feature by that term.

Notify Me is a handy button at the top of event descriptions.  When a patron clicks that button, they are offered a chance to sign up for an email notification that let’s them know when similar events are posted on the events calendar.  So, if a patron enjoys attending computer classes and signs up for Notify Me, they’ll receive an email every time you post new computer classes.

Notify Me is tied to other software features, such as the nightly status email and the subscriber reports.  If your library has chosen to activate nightly status emails, someone on your staff is receiving an email letting them know how many reminders were sent out about events that have been registered for, as well as emails sent to those who have signed up for Notify Me.

The Subscriber Reports (called Subscriber Lookup and Subscriber Detail) let you see who has signed up for Notify Me and what event types they are most interested in.  There is a wealth of marketing information in this data for your library.  For instance, if you’re wondering why you haven’t had a lot of attendance at certain events, it can be useful to invite your Notify Me subscribers who have an interest in that event type to come in to the library for a brief focus group.  You can also send them an email survey.  It’s a great way to get direct feedback from those who would be most likely to attend your events, and it helps you to quickly identify patrons with interest.

There is a lot to that single little button and it’s helped libraries build a following for programs of all types.  How has Notify Me helped your library?

Indiana State Library Calendar Standard

The Indiana State Library presented the newest library standards guidelines at the Indiana Library Federation Annual Conference in November.  One new standard is the requirement that libraries of all sizes have a monthly calendar on their website that is updated monthly.  You can learn more about the calendar requirement as well as other new Indiana library standards by visiting their website: http://www.in.gov/library/standards.htm

If you’re comparing your calendar options, then we encourage you to take a look at our calendaring product called Events.  It’s features include patron self-signup, an easy to read monthly calendar, quick integration with your existing website, email reminder systems, and more.

You can view the slideshow below to learn more or visit the Events product page on our website.
